C. Gibbs is a partner of the firm. Born in Barrhead, Alberta, Mr. Gibbs attended the University
of Alberta and received a Bachelor of Arts with Specialization (major
in Economics; minor in Political Science) in 1988. He received a
Bachelor of Laws in 1991.
Mr. Gibbs practised law with Orville T.G. Morrow Law Office, a general
law practice, for 5 years. During that period, Mr. Gibbs practised
in most areas of law, but concentrated on Civil, Criminal and Family
Litigation.
Mr. Gibbs joined
Hajduk Law Office in October, 1996. On June 1, 1997, Mr. Gibbs joined
in partnership with Richard B. Hajduk to form HAJDUK & GIBBS, now called HAJDUK GIBBS LLP,
which carries on the practice of law formerly carried on by HAJDUK
LAW OFFICE. The firm's practice concentrates primarily on Civil
Litigation, including Plaintiff Personal Injury
Litigation, but with many other areas of law being practised, also.
Mr. Gibbs is a member
in good standing of the Law Society of Alberta and a member of the
Association of Trial Lawyers of America. Mr. Gibbs has extensive
legal experience, and has represented hundreds of individuals, and
has been counsel for many corporations and various financial institutions.
Mr. Gibbs is an experienced
litigator whose advocacy skills have been honed by participation
in hundreds of trials, applications, appeals and other matters before
all levels of the Alberta Courts, and the Federal Court of Canada. He has also represented clients'
interests before various administrative tribunals including the
Workers' Compensation Board.
Mr. Gibbs has negotiated many settlements in personal injury matters, often obtaining settlements in the tens of thousands and sometimes in the hundreds of thousands of dollars, depending on the severity of injuries or loss suffered.
Mr. Gibbs has volunteered to speak to high school classes on issues of law, mentor junior lawyers, and to serve on various Law Society of Alberta Committees. He has also been privileged to be asked to provide advice and assistance to other law firms with particularly difficult or unusual litigation files, including assuming handling the litigation permanently or temporarily. Mr. Gibbs is someone from whom junior and senior lawyers alike feel comfortable seeking advice and assistance, whether on issues of civil or divorce procedure, litigation strategy, ethics or professional responsibility or otherwise.
Recently, Mr. Gibbs successfully litigated a case in which our client, after a 3 day trial in the Court of Queen’s Bench, was successful in having the claim against our client completely dismissed and our client’s counterclaim allowed in the full amount claimed, plus pre-judgment interest, plus costs on a solicitor and client basis.
Mr. Gibbs has a special
interest in the use of computers in the efficient provision of legal
services, in the practise of law, and in litigation, including legal
research.
